All our hogs are raised on pasture in North Carolina.
Here our pigs browse on saplings, underbrush, roots, insects, soil grubs, and grasses. As with all HNG animals they are never given antibiotics or added hormones. One of the best results of pastured NC pork production is the wellbeing of the animal — allowing the pigs to exhibit their natural behaviors, free from confinement. We provide our hogs with a free-choice grain feed to meet their dietary needs.
Hickory Nut Gap Farm works with other like-minded producers under the Hickory Nut Gap Meats brand to create a regional production model to meet our customer’s needs. Our family farmers work together to find the best pasture management practices creating high quality NC pork year round. Berkshire/Duroc breeds were chosen for their exceptional foraging skills and meat quality. 3rd party audits (see below) ensure all hogs are treated humanely and in accordance to our HNGM Pork Production Protocol 2016.
