Visitors are welcome to come out and enjoy the farm anytime during normal business hours. The farm areas are self guided, but if you’d like a more in-depth look at the farm with our staff, we offer several touring options.
Fall School Field Trips
- $120 minimum.
- $6 per student for groups of 20 or more.
- Teachers and chaperones are free.
- Tour the farm and participate in related grade-specific activities, wind your way through the corn maze, then make your way to the picnic tables by the creek and eat lunch as a class.
We can accommodate groups up to 80 students. Minimum group size is 20 students or $120 flat fee regardless of size. Parking is available for buses.
Field trips can be scheduled for Monday – Friday. You may sign up for the early session (10-11) or the lunch session (11:30-12:30). This is your time with the farmers visiting the farm animals and learning about HNGF, which is followed by a teacher/chaperone led voyage through the corn maze and lunch (you provide) at our picnic area/party shed. Please arrive on time as we will not be able to extend the 10:30 or 12 end-time due to other farm commitments.
What to Expect
Your class will taste apples and learn about their production, visit with animals, and complete a relevant age-appropriate activity (such as a game highlighting the process of pollination). Please let us know if you would like to tailor the tour content to a specific area of study. We will provide hand sanitizer at each animal station and before apple tasting. Each child and teacher will get to take home an apple and postcard.

Seasonal Open House
Once per season we host an open house at the farm. We prepare and serve samples of our products, including meats raised on the farm and local goods we sell in the store.
The highlight of the open house is the free farm tour with owner Jamie Ager. This is a one hour walking tour of the farm — rain or shine! This is a unique opportunity to hear Jamie’s firsthand perspective of farm life and our production practices.
Private tours present an in-depth view of the farming systems and philosophy of Hickory Nut Gap Farm — perfect for those choosing agriculture as a potential future endeavor, looking for some fresh ideas, or just curious about the local farm scene in Western North Carolina.
This is a 1.5-hour walking tour with owner Jamie Ager.
$120. Groups of 20 or more please add $6 for each additional person.
Please contact us to schedule a private tour. Availability is based on Jamie’s farm schedule.
