2018 Events at the Farm – Barn Dances and More!

7/13 – The Roaring Lions – Swing

A quarter that will take you from hot jazz swing dancing while strolling on the streets of New Orleans, to a fiery bayou boogaloo then old time waltzing and back again!  The Roaring Lions outfitted with piano, guitar, trumpet, and Sousaphone/trombone have been pleasing listeners and dancers alike sense it’s foundation in 2012.

7/14 – Hero Fest!

Calling all superheroes! The premier of HNG HERO FEST is underway. Join us and other local heroes for a day of fun for adults and kids alike.  Activities: Jiu Jitsu & Muay Thai Demos by Rogue Combat Club, Costume Contest with a prize, Roll Playing Games by Well Played of Asheville, LED Hooping by Peace, Love & Fire, Super Yoga with Mary Beth, Facepainting, Talk comic lore with Comic Envy, Games, food and brews by HNG and more!

7/20 – All Keyed Up – Rock and Roll

All Keyed Up is a new, upbeat band out of Fairview, NC that sings classic country and golden oldies.

7/27 – Crooked Pine – Big Circle Mountain Dance

Crooked Pine is a high energy dance band that works closely with callers matching tunes & dances, and has a great time doing it! This dance will be called by Beth Gunn, a local dance leader who calls “Big Circle Mountain Dance.” This form of dance is a southern traditional dance found in the WNC area. Couples will swing, promenade, and do figures together. This is a family friendly and beginner friendly form of dance.
As Glenn Bannerman is prone to say “if you can walk, you can do it.”

8/3 – Sparrow & Her Wingmen – Jazz, Ragtime & Blues

With a wide repertoire ranging from jazz to early ragtime pop to New Orleans blues, Sparrow & her Wingmen play gems from every era of early jazz, featuring Sparrow Pants on vocals & accordion, Keith J. Smith on guitar, Je Widenhouse on cornet, JP Furnas on Trombone, and Craig Sandberg on the upright bass. The Wingmen were formed by dancers Sparrow & Keith, with a goal of playing great dance music inspired by the folk roots of jazz, with an emphasis on improvisation, creative arrangements, and having a blast.

8/10 – QUEEN BEE & THE HONEYLOVERS

Queen Bee and the Honeylovers fuse hot club jazz with a Latin flair. Upbeat and nostalgic, their unabashedly joyous repertoire includes classic swing standards with an occasional peppering of more obscure tunes as well as original compositions. Vocal-driven with an infectious groove, they’re guaranteed to put a grin on your face and a tap in your toes.

8/17 – Bayou Diesel – Zydeco Night!

Bayou Diesel is a working cajun-zydeco Mardi Gras band in western North Carolina area. Based out of the Asheville area, Bayou Diesel has been performing traditional and ‘progressive’ high energy Louisiana style dance music since 2002.

9/1: Drovers Road & Hickory Nut Gap 8K/15K

Beautiful Hickory Nut Gap in Fairview, North Carolina will be the site of the inaugural Drovers Road/Hickory Nut Gap 8K/15K on Saturday, September 1.  Both races will offer a combination of trail and dirt roads within in the Drovers Road community and on adjacent roads.  Following the races, participants will enjoy food and drink from Hickory Nut Gap Farm and other local vendors.
