2019 Events at the Farm

1/22: Brian’s Whole Hog Butchery Class

4-6 pm  $80 per person.
If you’ve ever wondered about the difference between a rib and a roast or the best way to cook a Boston Butt, this intimate butchery class will answer your questions on all things pig!  Butcher Brian will take you step-by-step through the butchering process of a whole hog.

1/29: Fermenting for the New Year & New You! (Kraut)

4-6 pm $60 per person

Join Fermenti in an Introductory Class on Self Brining Lacto-Fermentation. This EASY and ACCESSIBLE food preservation technique will be covered in detail so you can walk away with a firm grasp on the basic fermentation principles, as well as creative recipe inspirations and a FREE Fermentation kit bubbling over with your own “Make and Take” Quart of Kraut! This 2 Hour Long Class will give you a better understanding of reducing food waste in your home, how to cut your food budget and we will also cover some of the diverse and innumerable health benefits this probiotic rich food will create. So, Join Us on Tuesday January 29th at the Hickory Nut Gap Farm from 4-6pm to learn more! Make and take home sauerkraut that YOU make in class and enjoy some snacks and fermented foods.

2/12: HNG Sausage Making Workshop

4-6 pm $80 per person

Sizzling, crackling sausage can come in so many unique flavors. Butcher Brian will take you step-by-step through the process of making the perfect sausage. Spices and seasonings with Spicewalla will add flavor and variety in perfect balance. Included in the class cost:

  • Sausage Making Demonstration.
  • Discussion on different sausage making styles and flavor profiles around the world, creating spice blends, ingredients used, learn from the experts tips for success, etc.
  • Hands on element- help grind and stuff.
  • Make and take home sausage from class.
  • Sausage Snacks provided.

3/23: Spring Equinox Stargazing Party

Join us to celebrate the end of winter and to welcome in the stars of spring!
During this time of equal night and equal day we’ll discuss some of the seasonal changes happening at this time in the sky as well as the myths of some of the spring constellations and anything else astronomical. All ages are welcome and no background in astronomy or science is required.
