Two hundred pigs on pasture is quite a site. Cows on pasture yes, but pigs? Let me introduce you to Hickory Nut Gap Meats pastured pork. Until you've visited our farm and seen for yourself what two hundred pastured pigs look like over on the hillside clearing brush, or down in the valley rooting their way around, you may not quite be able to pig-ture it.
We are dedicated to the humane treatment of our animals. As a result we provide ample space for our pigs to roam and to express their curious personalities in the warm months, when they are raised from piglets to finish. In the winter months they are in the protection of our barn in a deep bedded system where hay is continually added for their entertainment and to be carbon for the compost.
Our pigs use their natural instinct to root tubers from underground and enjoy a diet diverse in wild food as well as a corn and soybean based grain. The return is delicious, humanely raised pastured pork products. Hickory Nut Gap Meats breakfast sausage is a well know favorite in Asheville area restaurants and farmers market.

Fresh grass, clover and insects, is our pastured poultry's feast everyday. We raise our chickens outdoors in an open ended shelter where they can choose to roam under the sunshine or rest in the shade. The freedom ranger breed of chicken grows that grows at a slower pace than other conventional breeds. Our chickens enjoy both grain and food from their environment while roaming on pasture.
