Jamie and Amy Ager, Biography
Jamie and Amy Ager have been operating Hickory Nut Gap Farm for 12 years. They are both Warren Wilson College graduates who hit the ground running, starting their business just after graduation. Both enjoy traveling and have studied farming systems in New Zealand, Hawaii, Italy, California, Brazil and Argentina. Getting off the farm has proven to be valuable time where many of their current business ideas have been hatched. Raising three young boys has slowed down these types of adventures, yet they remain inspired to ensure the sustainability of their business, for the coming generations. In 2011 they were presented with CFSA’s Young Farmer of the Year Award, NC Farm Bureau Achievement Award, and noted as a NC Company to Watch by CED.
Currently HNGF offers grassfed beef, pastured pork and poultry and on farm tourism activities including organic u-pick berry operation, apples, corn maze, pumpkin patch, school tours, animals to hold and feed and a farm store that is open year around. This hands on farm experience works synergistically, creating benefits within all areas of their business, including wholesale and retail sales. Currently, Hickory Nut Gap Meats is distributed fresh to all Earth Fare Stores, Greenlife Grocery in Asheville NC and about 25 local restaurants as well as being available at the farm store, online and at local farmers markets.
